Colbert, I would argue, is quite different from anybody else we have talked about. Yesterday's New York Times said, "Stephen Colbert's on-air persona is a conservative buffoon." How exactly does The Colbert Report work? What is it? What news conventions does it rely on to be a parody?
(Or whatever else you want to say about Colbert.)

I really like Stephen Colbert's personality on his show. Granted he is a comedian, he is very lively and energetic on his show. I watched the episode where he found out if he was on the S.C. ballot and visited S.C. and also the interview with Walter Kern. Colbert's trip to S.C. was hillarious and very entertaining and I believe it showed Colbert at his best. Then Colbert found out he wasn't on the ballot and it seemed that he was really upset, not just putting on a show. Although I don't believe the Colbert Report presents real news that is necessary for the public, it is extremly entertaining and I loved the show.
I agree with Courtney when she mentions, "I really like Stephen Colbert's personality on his show." I believe he is extremely entertaining and worth watching at the same time.
I enjoy watching his show because it makes me laugh and makes fun of himself as well as others on his show. I like the fact that he doesnt just make fun of other people, but also of himself. His viewers can clearly see that he doesn't want to come out on top, but rather entertain.
In conclusion, his show relies on getting facts on other people and adjusting them for his show. I think is a great show.

I agree with both girls in that Stephen Colbert has a great personality on the show and keeps viewers coming back for his humor and witty jokes. I wouldn't rely on my news through the Colbert show, however I don't feel that he is doing anything wrong. If the viewers that the Colbert show attracts would not normally watch the news I feel it is important they are still up to date on what is happening in current events. While the basis of the show is comedy I feel that it still touches upon important issues in our society. Overall I really enjoyed the Colbert Report.
Stephen Colbert's characters personality is what I think is close to O'Reily's. I have seen may episodes of The Colbert Report. It is what I consider to be one of the most entertaining shows on tv. Colbert maybe at times very outlandish and take things a little to far like his run for president. I have seen many interviews with Stephen Colbert out of his character and he is a pretty serious guy. The most recent show I saw was the show Colbert found out he was not on the ballot. This show was very disappointing because as a fan I would have loved to see him on the ballet. I enjoyed Colbert's trip to South Carolina, he was mocking the political trail and I found it hilarious.
I happen to really enjoy watching the Colbert Report, mainly because it is Stephen Colbert's humor and personality that makes the show so special. He is a comedian so it is in his nature to make everything into a joke, which is why most people love and watch his show. It is definitely not a serious news broadcast because everything is made into a joke. In one episode I saw he is blatantly poking fun at both Democrats and Republicans. He did so by signing ballots for both Democrat and Republican parties. Then when he was asked how he wanted his name to appear on the ballots, he put a fake name that made fun of other political figures. He then continued to make fun of the fact that you have to raise more money for the Republican party, and for the Democrats you can either raise money or have people sign a petition. This particular episode was hilarious, but I would not consider his show a good source for people to get their news.
I feel repetitive saying it, but yes Colbert's personality does make the show. He is able to bring humor to his show with many witty remarks, yet does not come off with the arrogance of some like Hannity. Not many people out there could host this show and be able to pull it off like Stephen Colbert does. His intelligence could be put to better use with a more serious news show, but I do not think that’s what he is aiming for. While the news isn't a great source, the show is a great source of entertainment, and still allows you to think about some important issues in a not so serious way.
Stephen Colbert is a diamond in the rough. A mist an ever growing field of entertaining news shows one show sticks out and is on everybodies minds: The Colbert Report. "PK" says that Colbert's blatant intelligence could be put to better use in a place like a more straightforward news show, but I would argue that any bufoon could sit infront of a camera and read a telepromter, but what Colbert does is unique. I don't think anyone could the job Colbert does.
I am a big fan of stephen colbert, and love watching his show. The topics and veiws he has really do not realte to any political point of veiw that has ever been expressed to the public. The reason the show is successful is the different point of view that hes expresses to the public. He takes very seroius subjects that are dealt with in the governt and makes jokes out of them. The youth of america loves him becasue he relates to humor and the way the new generation operates.
The one thing that I was thinking about when I was watching the show is how Colbert presents the news. He does no doubt "present" some kind of news, but one watching the show probably really has no idea that it's news. The other night Colbert had a man on the show who is some grand chess master, but is also running for the Russian presidency. Who would have ever known!? So in the midst of messing around with the chess, we were still (whether we knew it or not) learning about this guy who is a potential Russian president. That's news, right?
The thing about Colbert is, that is how he presents his news. He disguises it as comedy, but it still gets the point across. He is a "buffoon" but that's who he is, that's what makes his show. That's why people WATCH the show...It's hilarious and even people who disagree with the issue he is talking about, for that moment they are probably going to forget that they don't agree. They'll be too busy being entertained.
As everyone says, I also think that Colbert is hilarious and has a great speech skill that can draw viewers’ attention. Basically what he does is, as his show is a parody of” O’Reily show”, mainly he makes fun of O’Reily and further perspectives of politics in American Society. However, I think his show should not be a “News show” since his show does not have many serious and meaningful points that viewers can take from it. Therefore, I think his show is more close to Comedy typed program rather than “NEWS” which suppose to offer important information to improve its own nation.
I think that Matthews goes in the same genre as Stephen Colbert and good old Bill O'Reily. He does get all sides but there is still the need for entertainment. Even though it is not that entertaning it still trys. They try to show all of the sides of the topic but there still is spin on the show. Matthews is very closely related to Bill O'Reilly because they both put their own insight to each topic. I am not a big fan of hardball because of well I think matthews is sort of boring and his voice gives me the creeps. But on a lighter note the SNL Skit of his show is so funny!
I had never watched Colbert Report before. I found it somewhat entertaining, but wasn't crazy about it. Colbert talked mostly about politics and his political campaign, which I previously had little knowledge of. I watched several clips online of absinthe and college students, as well as how to raise campaign funds. I honestly did not understand some of the humor, which is why I did not enjoy it as much. I do not watch the news as much here; therefore, I am unaware of some of the things going on and don't notice the sarcastic jokes he makes.
I agree with Kelly. I would have to say that I feel the same way about Colbert. I can see how his show would be entertaining if you have a lot of knowledge about the news but in order to know what’s going on I think its important to either watch other news show as well or read the newspaper. This show is a good form of entertainment but should not be ones primary news source. I don’t really think it is a bad thing that so many college students do watch it as their primary news source because in many cases I think they would not watch any news at all unless it was for these entertainment type news shows.
I think that his personality makes the show worth watching as well. I love watching his facial expressions when he is speaking so passionately in his role. Also, I think people mistake his “on-air persona” as something bad for us, but it gets the message across in a sarcastic, entertaining way. This passion comes out with his well-done public speaking skills, which make him look perfect for the part he plays. I watched the White House Correspondents Association dinner in which he gave an amazing speech. The man announcing him said that he was “not only funny but fearless, he will defend the truth when it is under attack.” Colbert made many jokes in the speech at this rather serious dinner and talked about his show and how truthful it is. He said with a little bit of sarcasm, “every night on my show I speak straight from the gut, I give people the truth unfiltered by rational argument, I call it the ‘no-fact zone’, FOX news I will copyright on that term.” This makes it even funnier when he makes fun of O’reilly for the no-spin zone.
